How to Repair Microsoft Office | Tutorial | ClipTraining Blog

In our last installment of Clip of the Week, we talked about starting Microsoft Office applications in Safe Mode to help solve problems with documents, presentations, spreadsheets and even Outlook files.  If you need a refresher on how to do this, check out the blog post here.  Unfortunately, sometimes problems still existing that require a more in depth recovery of the application itself.  So let’s introduce you to the next step in fixing your Office suite –repairing your Office installation.

What are some instances where you might need this option?  Simply put, anytime you want your Office suite restored to its original out of the box configuration.  Don’t worry, your documents and settings all remain, they’re not going anywhere; just the applications get repaired and put back to normal.

To do this, follow these simple steps:

  1. Open the control panel and select Uninstall a Program.
  2. From the list that appears, choose your version of Microsoft Office that you would like repaired.  Right click and select Change.  A dialog box will appear.
  3. Choose Repair and then click Continue.
  4. A progress indicator will let you see how the process is going.  When it completes, follow the direction on screen and click Close.

That’s it!  While it’s not required, optionally you may want to reboot your computer.  Applications just seem to run a little better after that.  Ideally, this will have repaired any issues with your existing Office installation and you are good to go.
