The Admin Corner: Forefront Online Protection for Exchange (FOPE)

One of the biggest concerns when moving your infrastructure to the cloud is the lack of control you have over certain aspects of your organization. No matter what vendor you choose (Microsoft or someone else) you face positives and negatives in terms of control. You give up a great deal of stress, no doubt. But that stress may return if you don’t have solid side features that you may usually worry about in-house. One example of this is with email spam and viruses.

With an on-premises set of servers you may have different anti-spam and anti-virus solutions to help protect your people from junk mail and harmful or malicious mail. So, what happens if you decide to go with a hosted mail system? Well, every system is different. ClipTraining is a proud user of the Microsoft Business Productivity Online Suite (BPOS) and is looking forward to the next generation of BPOS; called Office 365.

One of the perks to going with BPOS/O365 is fact that Microsoft is including their online Forefront protection: Forefront Online Protection for Exchange (FOPE pronounced Fa-Pee). With multiple virus engines and spam combating features, as well as new connectors for advanced mail flow control, admins will not be relinquishing control, but in many ways gaining greater control than what they may currently be running for their on-premises solution.
