The Admin Corner: New Products to Consider in 2011 from Microsoft and Others

The roadmap each year varies for product releases.  2010 was an amazing year with products being released that wowed the industry, like the April 2010 release of the iPad and the various tablets released by others that year (like the Galaxy Tab).  It’s hard to follow up a year like that and we shouldn’t expect the 2011 releases to be as stellar.  However, Microsoft does have a bevy of interesting solutions being launched this year including the following:

  • Office 365 (the follow up to BPOS)
  • Small Business Server (Standard and Essentials)
  • MultiPoint Server
  • Windows Home Server
  • Storage Server

… and the list goes on with IE 9 already released, Silverlight 5, new flavors of Dynamics and more.  Read up on these solutions here in ClipTraining’s own J. Peter Bruzzese’s column on InfoWorld called Enterprise Windows.  Read more here:  http://www.infoworld.com/d/microsoft-windows/the-jewels-in-microsofts-boring-2011-product-roadmap-924?page=0,3

2011 is hardly a dry year for product releases.  And Microsoft isn’t the only one delivering Enterprise Windows solutions.  There are plenty of third-party vendors that can be focused on.  I’ll be keeping my eye out for things great and small.  Everything from SQL performance enhancements like the folks over at NitroSphere (http://www.nitrosphere.net/) to cool little add-on tools like this Outlook filing option with a single click from Caelo (http://www.singleclickfiling.com/).
