The Admin Corner: Office 365

What is Office 365? Some folks are a bit confused because of the name. The name implies to some that it is a new flavor of Office. Perhaps the next version after Office 2010. But that isn’t the case. It’s actually the next version of Microsoft’s hosted suite of services. Currently they offer their Business Productivity Online Suite (or BPOS) offering. But in the near future they will update that solution to Office 365.

Included in the offer will be hosted Exchange, hosted SharePoint, and hosted Lync, with a license for Office 2010 Professional Plus. It’s a per-user licensing offer that is currently thought to be priced similar to BPOS at $10 per user.

But Admins are worried that putting these services in the cloud and removing them from on-premises will cost them their jobs. Is that true?! ClipTraining’s J. Peter Bruzzese discusses this further in his Enterprise Windows column from InfoWorld. Check the column out here.
