Many of you are excited to know what Microsoft is planning for the next flavor of Windows and speculations have been intensifying as this year progresses. Well, Microsoft has finally begun releasing some information and next-gen Windows looks awesome. Julie Larson-Green, Corporate Vice-President of the Windows Experience says “Fast, fluid and dynamic, the experience has been transformed while keeping the power, flexibility and connectivity of Windows intact.”
Critics have already leaped to the podium, so to speak, to trash talk the new OS before we have really even had a chance to play with it (which we think is foolish and betrays less concern for what is accurate and more concern for page clicks through tabloid journalism on their part). One promise is that it will be one OS for multiple system types. From a business perspective it will be great to have everyone working through one solution. So all company tablets, phones, laptops and desktops will be running Windows again; and that makes for cross platform development and deployment ease. It’s also going to be easier to secure devices that fall under Group Policy settings that we will no doubt begin seeing with the next flavor of Server. Peter Bruzzese’s Enterprise Windows column entitled “With Windows 8, businesses can have just one OS for every device” on InfoWorld.
