How to Rename Multiple Files at Once on Windows 7

Ready for a timesaver?  Let’s go!

Earlier in the year, we introduced you to a utility called FastStone Photo Resizer.  In addition to it’s ability to resize a bunch of pictures at once, we also liked it’s easy ability to custom rename photos in large batches.  Today we’ll show you a simpler way to do this in Windows 7 without installing any software.  Oh yeah, you can do this with other files as well, not just pictures.

Let’s see what it takes to rename a bunch of files in 3 easy steps.

  1. Open the folder with the files you want to rename all at once.
  2. Select all the files you want to rename.
  3. Right click any file you have selected and rename it.

That’s it! All the files have been renamed in sequential order based off the first file you renamed.

No software, no command lines, just an easy right click and rename trick.
